Inspired by a childhood summer style staple, The Row's Mara Flat is nothing like your mother’s 90s jelly sandal. Forget pesky blisters and sweaty feet, The Mara Flat is the classic children’s shoe, all grown-up. With a sleek, streamlined silhouette and a delicate net cage design, these sandals are as easy to wear as they are stylish.
The one clear callback to the jelly sandals of old, was colour. A semi-transparent shoe could always benefit from a little more life, and the original jelly sandal always had shades in spades. Though famous for designing with an understated colour palette, The Olsen twins paid proper homage to a shoe held so dearly by the generation that made them famous. Playful tints of cherry red and bubblegum blue represented a departure from The Row’s typically monochromatic visual theme—but they looked no less out of place on the sophisticated summer 2024 runway than they would have on the feet of a pre-pubescent boy band fanatic from thirty years ago. Perhaps it should be codified into law: when designing a jelly shoe, candy colours are the only way to go.
Without fail, The Olsen twins consistently demonstrate their impeccable taste and knack for atemporal fashion; not only making a childhood favourite luxurious, but proving that they can stand the test of time as well.
